Job Opening: Community Events Coordinator

We are seeking a full-time Events Coordinator to work closely with our Senior Manager of Communications to support our whole team to coordinate events, meetings, and trainings.

The ideal candidate will resonate with our SJP values and have a track record in events support, along with the ability to keep an energized team organized. Key Responsibilities

Meeting / Event Coordination

Act as the key coordination and logistics lead for SJP convenings, with an eye toward creating spaces that are welcoming, accessible, and foster community building:

  • Manage in-person event production for core SJP programs, including securing and coordinating with venues, being primary vendor contact, leading set up & pack down with the team, coordinating catering and other necessary meeting supplies.

  • Manage virtual event production for core SJP programs, leading pre- to post-production including: setting up events in Zoom, acting as main tech host on Zoom to ensure all aspects of virtual events are running seamlessly (screen sharing, recording, spotlighting breakout rooms, waiting rooms etc.), downloading or editing video recordings if needed.

  • Support fee-for-service engagements and trainings. For cohort offerings, field questions, support Zoom tech, and communicate with participants. For educational trips, coordinate trip logistics, and coordinate with contact for vendor payments. Support Zoom tech for customized offerings.

  • Support the execution of annual Fast Pitch event, the 2025 Healing Justice Summit, and future large-scale convenings. Coordinate the SJPLA staff team members to support events execution. Liaise with vendors/professional services, support Senior Communications Manager with event marketing, manage ticketing, and ensure the smooth execution of the event.

  • Communicate with registered attendees before the events to ensure they have the necessary details to attend prepared and reach out after events with post-event surveys and other follow-up materials.

Data & Systems

  • Manage data and processes related to events and meetings, including:

  • Tracking registration and attendance in Neon for all program events

  • Manage volunteer hours tracking database

  • Create and continually update list of org meetings and events vendors

  • Collect events, job postings, and program updates to support organizational communications

  • Proactively tend to streamlining and improving processes and systems related to events and meetings

Collaborative Leadership

  • Actively collaborate with the SJP staff team, including participation in team meetings, meet ups, planning sessions, retreats, and engagement on Slack and email.

  • In areas of decision making authority, seek counsel and partnership from teammates, particularly from those directly impacted, prior to making decisions.

  • Proactively seeks out information they need, asks questions when they are stuck or unclear, and fully owns moving their pieces forward.

  • Loves executing on a team’s vision, is excited about making the details happen, and understands the importance of the behind the scenes logistics work.

  • Is known for their Zoom meeting and event production skills, ideally very comfortable and experienced in Zoom event production including managing breakouts, spotlighting, meeting vs webinar functionalities, recording, and use of third party apps/widgets to enhance virtual convenings.

  • Loves data, databases, and details! Loves to organize information, create and coordinate processes that are user-friendly for the team, and generates reports to help us understand metrics across different programs.

  • Is ready to step into an environment of self-accountability and is excited to work within a team that is committed to the joy and responsibility of co-creating a liberatory team culture.

  • Has at least 3 years nonprofit administrative or program support experience.

  • Has proficiency in online tools/databases, including: Google Suite, Zoom, and Microsoft Office. Experience in Squarespace, Airtable, Stripo, Neon, or similar CRM databases is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position. The position will pay $80,000 per year, plus 100% of employee costs of medical, dental, vision, and long-term disability insurance. We also offer staff support stipends for professional development and personal wellbeing. As an organization, SJPLA takes eight weeks of “quiet time” each year (two weeks in the Spring, three weeks in the summer, three at year end), to give the team time and space for internal reflection, planning, and rest from external activities. While the position will be largely remote (with some in-person events or meetings), we will prioritize candidates who live in Los Angeles County.
