LA Sparks Choose SJPLA as Their 2025 Commissioner's Cup Partner

We're thrilled to share that Social Justice Partners LA has been selected as the Los Angeles Sparks' community partner for the 2025 WNBA Commissioner's Cup!

What This Means

Since 2021, the Commissioner’s Cup, an in-season tournament, has been a powerful platform for social impact, with each of the WNBA teams selecting a local community organization to support through their play.

Here's how it works: Every time the Sparks win a Commissioner's Cup game, $3,000 is contributed to SJPLA's work. When they don't win, we still receive $1,000. And if the Sparks make it all the way to the Finals? The winning team's partner organization receives an additional $10,000, with the runner-up's partner receiving $5,000.

Why This Partnership Matters

The WNBA and its players has shown themselves to be leaders in social justice, and their "No Space for Hate" movement continues the league's movement of addressing hate. The Sparks choosing SJPLA reflects a shared commitment to addressing the root causes of injustice.

This partnership amplifies something we've always known: change happens when we partner for collective action. We work alongside community members, organizations, and leaders to create systemic change that uplifts all of Los Angeles. Through this partnership, the Sparks are championing systems change in our community.

What's Next

Over the coming weeks, you'll see us at Crypto.com Arena cheering on our Sparks during Commissioner's Cup games. We'll be there for the home games on June 9th and June 17th (and yes, we have tickets available for our Partners). And we’ll be watching from home to root for the Sparks on the road games.

But more importantly, this partnership will help resource the work like: our Systems Change Fellowship, our efforts to advance racial equity in LA's homeless response sector, our work creating liberatory workplaces, and all the ways we support the leaders who are transforming our city.

Thank You, Sparks

To the LA Sparks organization, players, coaches, and fans: thank you for choosing to stand with us. Thank you for recognizing that sports and social justice aren't separate.

And to our SJPLA community: get ready to cheer for every basket and defensive stop, every play on the court is also a moment of investment in our shared vision for Los Angeles.

Let's go, Sparks! 🏀✨
