Assistant Program Director | Imagine LA

“People of color experience homelessness in disparate numbers due to poverty and systemic racism that is endemic in the employment, education, health, and housing arenas in America. Wage suppression, inferior education systems, and racist hiring practices all work to keep people of color housing insecure. When attempting to access assistance, they are then subject to racist policies which further inhibit the ability to obtain and maintain housing.”

Cameille is a social justice change agent who believes that safe, affordable housing is a basic human right. Spending the majority of their career working within social systems to improve outcomes for marginalized communities. Their approach to policy creation is informed by an intersectional lens that captures race and gender. Having worked many years in mental health, addiction treatment services, community reintegration and adult education Cameille recognized the role that housing insecurity played in exacerbating these challenges. In their current role as a Housing Navigation Manager with LA Family Housing, Cameille and team move unhoused neighbors into permanent housing. In addition to her housing justice work Cameille is a practicing doula/birth partner assisting birthing people with safe and joyous birth experiences, addressing disparities in black maternal health birth outcomes.
