Darrin Oliver

Program Manager, Permanent Supportive Housing ICMS | Brilliant Corners

“We must know who we're serving. The stories of those who we serve are dynamic. They're complex. If we really take time to get to know their story about how they got to the position that they are in or how they got to the street, we would find out a lot of information.”

Darrin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and currently serves as a program manager for the Permanent Supportive Housing ICMS program at Brilliant
Corners.

Darrin earned his BSW from the Silver School of Social Work at New York University, where he was a Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholar recipient. During
his time in New York, Darrin interned with the Vera institute of Justice and spent time working in field-based case management. He also contributed to
campus life, serving as a resident assistant and serving on various student club executive boards. Upon returning home in Los Angeles County, specifically hub-city (Compton, CA), Darrin spent time working in homeless outreach for the Dept of Veteran’s Affairs and subsequently worked in residential treatment facilities
for those with serious and persistent mental illnesses. In these settings, Darrin honed in on compassionate trauma-informed care approaches, which
encouraged him to earn his Master of Social Work degree at the University of Southern California School of Social Work, with a concentration in Systems of
Recovery from Mental Illness.

Following earning his MSW degree, Darrin spent time working with homeless veterans as a HUD VASH social worker, a primary therapist for outpatient residential treatment and in various dialysis clinics and in the Breaking Barriers Rapid Rehousing program.

In his downtime, he indulges in self-care activities that include spending time in the darkroom processing film, fiddling with analog hi-fi systems, and
working with youth at an education non-profit in South Los Angeles.
