Laura Anne Hamilton

Los Angeles County Department of Health Services Community Programs

“It has been challenging going from a frontline worker in Skid Row to working from home and out of an office. I am enjoying the challenges and the interaction with different facets of local and state government that the Hilton Fellowship has provided thus far. I am looking forward to what two years from now looks like!”

In 2017, Laura Anne Hamilton graduated from the University of Southern California-Keck School of Medicine with a Master of Public Health focusing on Global Health Leadership. Upon completion of her degree, she started working for Homeless Health Care Los Angeles, where she was co-located at The ReFresh Spot in the heart of Skid Row. The Skid Row Community ReFresh Spot offers restrooms, showers, laundry, phone charging, and access to potable water. Being a part of this community-driven program was one of the most personally and professionally rewarding experiences of Laura's life and has provided her with a perspective on people experiencing homelessness that is essential to understand that people are the experts of their own lives. She believes that they can only provide the community with what it needs when they listen to their individual and collective voices.
