Marco Santana

Principal Analyst | LA County CEO, Homeless Initiative

“There needs to be a change in definition of Homeless status, and ensure that as we look to prevent further homelessness we’re smart in our strategies and truly responsive to the need, not just reactionary. ”

Marco Santana is a Principal Analyst at LA County CEO’s Homeless Initiatives (HI). Raised in the San Fernando Valley as a first-generation Mexican-American, Marco experienced adversities such as housing instability and utility shut-offs during his childhood. These challenges, coupled with witnessing his parents' hard work and deep commitment to community, inspired his career in public service.

Marco has supported his community by working for two elected officials before seeking more direct impact. He spent six years as a Director at LA Family Housing, overseeing access centers, intake, homeless prevention, and problem-solving programs.

At HI, Marco collaborates with local jurisdictions across LA County to enhance their homeless programming, managing a $25 million budget. Beyond his professional role, he is active in the community through LAHSA’s Latinx Task Force, METRO’s CAC, and serves on the boards of the Mid Valley YMCA, SFVYD, DPSFV, and ICON CDC. Marco has also presented twice at the National Alliance to End Homelessness (NAEH) on Latinx homelessness and best practices.
