SJPLA’s Racial Equity in Homelessness Initiative is accepting eligibility submissions for two fellowship cohorts that are designed for folks who want to advance their careers and center racial equity in LA’s homeless response sector.

Conrad N. Hilton Foundation Policy & Systems Change Fellowship

A two-year, full-time, paid program for individuals who want to improve service delivery systems and policies. The fellowship is designed to fast-track leaders with frontline and direct service experience to homelessness-related positions in L.A. County’s public sector.

Racial Equity Initiative Fellowship

The Racial Equity Fellowship identifies emerging BIPOC leaders who aspire for C-suite and executive leadership roles in L.A. County's homeless response sector. These fellows spend nine months building relationships, connecting to larger questions around racial equity and homelessness, and creating a framework for centering equity and inclusion within the workplace.

Which fellowship is right for me?

Hilton Policy & Systems Change Fellowship

  • Yes

    This fellowship requires that you leave your current position when you join a full-time placement in the public sector in a contractor role.

  • Frontline worker to direct service program manager

  • 3-5 years+

  • I want to level up in my career - I see myself as a staff analyst, director role either in the public sector or back in the nonprofit sector.

    I want to learn more about systems change, policy, and funding

    I want to bring my frontline work experience to the public sector

  • You will be entering the public sector.

  • 2 years

    Full-time placement in the public sector in a contractor role

    Must quit their current role at organization/agency

    Quarterly cohort sessions

  • Must commit to working in a public sector for 2 years, full-time

    Must have direct, lived, or proximate experience of homelessness

    Must have 3-5+ years of work experience in homeless service delivery or frontline work

    Must possess the curiosity and drive to better understand public sector systems

    Must have Bachelor’s degree or higher

  • $85,000 per year total.

    Position will be an independent contractor role and the stipend amount is final and firm.

    Health benefits, transportation, and other costs are not provided.

Racial Equity in Homelessness Fellowship

  • No

    This fellowship cohort meets monthly and does not require you to change your employment.

  • Manager, director, or vice president

  • 5-7 years+

  • I want to level up in my career - I see myself in an executive or C-suite position in the next 5-10 years

    I want to strengthen my network of fellow BIPOC leaders

  • For those in both the nonprofit and public sectors.

  • 9 months

    Does not require a job change

    Monthly cohort sessions

  • Must identify as Black, Indigenous, or Person of Color (BIPOC)

    Must work at an organization or agency within L.A. County’s homeless response sector

    Must currently hold a mid-to-senior level management position, 5-7+ years of work experience

    Must have a track record of impact in your organization or within the sector

  • $2,500 one-time, unrestricted funds paid directly to Fellow
