Anti-Racist Commitments for 2023

Every year, we ask our Anti-Racism for White People cohort to reflect on what they've learned and share their commitments for anti-racist action in the coming year.

We can feel overwhelmed by the enormity of the work or paralyzed by the uncertainty of our place in it. Throughout the course, we create cycles of reflection and action to move through that tension and sustain our anti-racist commitments over the long term.

I'm energized by the humility, curiosity, and engagement we've witnessed with each year’s cohort. We hope these commitments inspire you to weave anti-racist actions into your intentions for the new year.

Below are a few examples of commitments our cohort members made this year. In 2023, I will:

  • not shy away from difficult conversations about racism.

  • double down on anti-racist, BIPOC-led, community-centered grantmaking.

  • listen to the Seeing White Podcast.

  • harness the power I have in small and bigger moments.

  • share a more accurate Thanksgiving story with my family.

  • let go of my fear of getting it wrong.

  • give others and myself grace and not push perfectionism.

  • review my spending to see if it matches my values.

  • learn about my family’s history.

  • connect with others on this anti-racism journey.

We begin this journey again with a new cohort that starts later this month! Register for the 2023 Anti-Racism for White People course. Start your year with us as part of your commitment to combat white supremacy and racism in your daily life.
