Pausing as Productivity - SJPLA’s Quiet Time

Our SJPLA team recently came back from our first “quiet time,” part of our practice of individual and team renewal. Quiet time is an intentional counter to the endless drive for productivity inherent in white supremacy culture and an acknowledgment that periods of rest and reflection are critical to the work we do.

Twice a year, we take three weeks to slow down, turn down external meetings, and create the space we need to ground ourselves. During this time, each team member decides what best serves them and their energy - vacation, planning and dreaming about the work, getting organized, or just catching up on things they haven’t had the space to do.

Take some time to hear first-hand reflections from Yolanda, our Manager of Sustainable Operations on her quiet time.

Quiet time is part of our commitment to cultivating a liberatory workplace where we employ practices and policies that enable team members to show up fully and create powerfully in service of more justice in the world.
