JOB DESCRIPTION:

Council District 13 is the most progressive council district in Los Angeles, and councilmember Soto-Martinez is one of the most progressive members on city council. CD13 is comprised of many different neighborhoods including Hollywood, Atwater Village, East Hollywood, Echo Park, Elysian Valley, Glassell Park, Historic Filipinotown, Larchmont Village, Little Armenia, Silver Lake, Thai Town, and many others!  Our council district serves the constituency and the city.

Homelessness is the most urgent problem the city faces today. The CD 13 Homelessness Team aims to represent and uplift the homeless in our district and beyond. We're working to be the forefront of solutions - we're here to change lives. Our team addresses the 3rd largest homeless population of the 15 council districts in Los Angeles - roughly 3,000 homeless individuals. Our department works closely with various stakeholders including homeless services providers, nonprofits, government agencies, neighboring council districts, and more.

This position on our team observes and addresses homelessness from a macro-perspective, with some opportunity to work directly with the homeless population to connect them with homeless services while seeking proactive solutions for the broader population. Our team informs the councilmember on homeless issues and the homeless needs of the district. This position, along with the team and at the direction of the Homelessness Director, considers and implements projects, guides relevant city agencies, meets stakeholders and the constituency to educate the public, partners, and stakeholders, and garners support for our cause.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Must be comfortable working directly with the homeless.

  • Must have the ability to balance multiple projects of various sizes simultaneously.

  • Must be comfortable working with constituents holding various opinions on homelessness.

  • Must be able to familiarize oneself with homeless systems and policies in Los Angeles.

  • Basic computer skills and business/office etiquette required.

  • Schedule must be flexible, must be available for some after-hours events as well as weekends rarely.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a basic understanding of homelessness in Los Angeles and the contributing factors to homelessness in Los Angeles, LA County, and California.

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Strongly recommended to have 2 years experience working or volunteering in social services or similar field.

  • Must have great interpersonal skills.

  • Past organizing experience highly valued.

  • Fluency in Spanish highly preferred.
