Community Power Collective

Sergio Jimenez (he/him)

“Street vending is embedded in the fabric of most countries and societies, including in Los Angeles. It has developed into a vital cultural and economic practice for immigrants and working-class members. Yet historically, it has been criminalized in all its forms.”

Community Power Collective’s Street Vendor Justice initiative seeks to empower the vending communities by strategizing, mobilizing, and changing the narrative through community control of public spaces.

Sergio Jimenez was born in Mexico City and raised in Los Angeles. Politicized at an early age, he worked and organized students, labor, and community members with diverse organizations to build a more just society through radical organizing. Sergio is a skilled photojournalist, a bibliophile, an urban farmer, a father of two chicanxs, and recently graduated with honors from California State University, Los Angeles with a Master’s in Latin American Studies.
