SVPLA Presents: Black Power Course Led by Dr. Melina Abdullah

SVPLA is excited to partner with Dr. Melina Abdullah to offer Black Power, a weekly learning course for people interested in shifting power, privilege and influence to support Black liberation struggle.

For 8-weeks beginning Wednesday, April 21st, at 12pm Dr. Abdullah will lead course participants through a lecture and discussion that will support learning and reflection, while offering opportunities to take action to combat racism and dismantle white supremacy culture. In addition, participants will receive recommended readings, links and videos that relate to the topic of discussion to help further learning.

Course Details

The course will run weekly on Wednesdays, from 12pm-1pm PDT.

First date: Wednesday, April 21st
Final date: Wednesday, June 9th 

Cost: We are committed to making this important learning widely available for all. While the full cost per participant is $350, we have a sliding scale of options available. If the cost is a barrier to participating, please reach out to us at: info@svpla.org

About Dr. Melina Abdullah

Dr. Abdullah is the co-founder of the Los Angeles Chapter of Black Lives Matter and chair of the department of Pan-African Studies at California State University, Los Angeles. She is a recognized expert on race, gender, class, and social movements. Abdullah is the author of numerous scholarly articles and book chapters, with subjects ranging from political coalition building to womanist mothering. Read her full bio here.
