SVPLA’s Healing Justice for Ourselves, our Communities, and our Workspaces is a free five-week course for folks who work in the homeless response sector. Through guided discussion, practices, guest speakers, participants will learn more about the healing justice framework created by Cara Page and the Kindred Healing Justice Collective.
We rarely address the mental, physical, and emotional toll of this work, felt most acutely by BIPOC workers, leading to burnout and attrition. Providing healing practices and tools to care for this workforce helps retain expert employees and renew their ability to care for their clients.
Learning Overview
We will identify unique ways to collectively invite wellbeing and healing practices in ourselves, our structures, and our movements.
Week 1: What is healing justice
Week 2: Compassion fatigue and burnout
Week 3: Workplace wellbeing
Week 4: Grounding and mindfulness at work
Week 5: Reflection + action
How it works
The course takes place over five hour-long sessions and will enroll 15-20 people per course.
Homeless response workers can fill out the form below to apply and will be enrolled on a first-come, first-serve basis for applicants who fit the criteria.

Qualifying organizations interested in applying can attend this information session to learn more and ask questions.
We will have another information session on October 19.
Qualifying organizations:
501c3 organizations or fiscally sponsored organizations who:
Have employees who provided daily, direct, and in-person services to people experiencing homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic (e.g. outreach workers, interim housing staff, Project Roomkey staff) between March 2020 - March 2021;
AND
Have physical sites located in Service Planning Areas 2 (San Fernando Valley), 4 (Metro LA), 5 (West LA), 6 (South LA), or 8 (South Bay/Harbor) – view map;

Are actively engaged in the exploration of pay equity and providing a living wage for their frontline workers, e.g. salary and wage analysis, setting a minimum living wage, worker survey, or convening discussions on the leadership level. Organizations will have an opportunity in the application to describe the activities you have engaged in to address pay equity and a living wage.
